Today, we’d like to introduce you to Laura Gunderson and her groovy earrings brand, Mermaid Groove!

Laura and I met a little over a year ago while collaborating on a tutorial for her polymer clay earrings for www.crafts-women.com. Since then, I’ve become a huge fan of her work, and we’ve worked together on a few more projects, including the publication of her small business stories and experiences. Laura is a joy to work with, and her warm, playful, and thoughtful personality comes through in her work.

Last fall, I bought a couple of Halloween earrings sets from Mermaid Groove to add to my fall/Halloween jewelry collection. Many people told me how cute these little skull and coffin casket earrings were, and they couldn’t believe those were hand-made earrings!

I ladore hand-made accessories, and even have made a few for myself. However, it always amazes me how perfect these one-of-a-kind, hand-made jewelry pieces are when I buy them. I’ve worked with polymer clays before, and I know how much fun it is to create something with it, but I also know how difficult it is to achieve a certain level of perfection and how much hard work and dedication it takes. So seeing an impressive level of detail and quality finish makes me appreciate these little creations even more.

And that’s why I love Mermaid Groove so much; Laura is incredibly particular about the quality of her products, and she draws inspiration for her designs from her heart and her own experiences.

brand story: mermaid groove

My name is Laura Gunderson. I’ve always been an artistic person who wanted to be able to express myself through a medium that I could share with others.

A couple of years ago I finally discovered polymer clay – specifically polymers clay earrings! Something I could use to unwind and be creative, but then ship away to a new home for enjoyment when I’m done. I love the idea that others are out in the world wearing my pieces! I try to capture various types of beauty and styles in my pieces.

Mermaid Groove was created to share beautiful pieces of artwork that can be worn on people’s ears to hopefully bring a little bit of joy each day! I don’t know about you, but it makes me so happy when I see someone wearing a unique piece of jewelry.

Beautiful and free-spirited mermaids have always been a source of inspiration and a little bit of an obsession for me. I am also especially infatuated with the 1960s and 70s, which is where groovy – or groove comes from! And so Mermaid Groove began!

I am so grateful to be able to share my work with you. We are a small business that was born during the pandemic. I do have a full time job that takes up the majority of my days, but when I come home later at night and on my weekends I get to tend to my earrings. It has not been easy, but I intend to continue on!
