Today, we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Lynn Herold and her natural hair care brand, NightBlooming.
I found NightBlooming on Etsy when I was looking for a red hair dye that wouldn’t damage my hair. When I ruined my hair with bad chemical dyes, I had to keep cutting off the burned ends until my hair reached my chin. After that, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to dye my hair again for a while, until I started looking for more natural ways to do it.
I did a lot of research and finally decided to try their Fire Genasai Bright Copper Herbal Hair Color. I loved how the color turned out and how healthy my hair felt afterward. And it’s interesting because Melissa started making natural hair dyes for the same reason.

I’m always surprised when people assume that a team of people runs NightBlooming because it’s a one-woman micro-business!
It all began when I destroyed my hip-length hair with chemical dyes and thought, “There has to be a better way.” And there was!
As a fantasy author of The Iyarri Chronicles, I’m fascinated by stories of creating magical potions. In a way, that’s what the heart of NightBlooming is: handmade, natural, and a little bit magical. It’s also why many of my products are inspired and named after literature and folklore. In the end, I got the fiery red hair I wanted, but this time, the products I used to color my hair actually helped make my hair healthier.
Chasing this passion has let me become the natural alchemist I’ve always wanted to be, mixing powders, herbs, and oils into products that deliver on quality, effectiveness, and cost. It does feel a bit like magic, blending herbs and essential oils, but I apply a lot of hard science to my product development to make sure everything I create not only works well, but is something my customers feel great about using.

Whenever possible, NightBlooming products come packaged in reusable glass containers or biodegradable/recyclable/compostable pouches. Every order is shipped similarly, with upcycled/recycled packing materials when possible and biodegradable tape.
Because NightBlooming is all about caring for yourself while adding a little bit of magic to your life, I make sure that every package feels like opening a gift.
